8.0 INSTITUTION ACHIEVEMENTS
The Board Of Governors in conjunction with the parents have managed to complete the following projects.
Construction of classrooms and laboratories
Construction of dormitories , dining hall and kitchen
Purchase of school van KAE 227 F - 1995
Construction of water reservoir (150000 litres) 1996
Development of school farm dam, piggery and farming
Construction of administration library - 1998 - 2003
Purchase of school bus KAR 340L - 2004 - 2008.
9.0 INSTITUTION’S CHALLENGES
9.1 School Library
Stocking and furnishing library estimated cost Kshs 2.5m. the library is complete but requires the shelves, reading tables and chairs and books. The library can accommodate over 100,000 volumes and estimated sitting capacity of 100No.
9.2 Water Supply
The school expriences major water problems. Currently two options are being considered in line with reliable and sustainable water supply.
A borehole estimated at Ksh 2m. Geotechnical study has already been done and a reliable yield established. A permit to drill has also been acquired.
Piped gravity flow supply from some intake on the rivers flowing from the Aberdares ranges. Though this option may be more expensive during implementation, cost of operation would be friendly.
Reliable water supply shall enhance / improve on the general hygiene, sanitation and assist greatly in irrigation at the school farm. This will boost our dairy, piggery units and crop farming. It’s anticipated that this shall generate income for the school and reduce costs of operations.
9.3 Expansion of the facilities
Due to the rising student population some facilities require expansion such as:-
Dining hall
An additional dormitory.
9.4 Water Heating System
Endarasha being a cold area, providing students with hot water system for bathing is recommended. Best and most economical methods are currently being investigated. Proposals include Biogas and Fire wood as fuel.
9.5 Staff Houses
Additional staff houses are required to facilitate accommodation of staff members in the school compound. At least 15 staff houses needed.
9.6 Sanitation System
Sanitation system in the school urgently needs to be overhauled such that water based system is employed. This is critical for hygiene. Currently, long drop system in use due to inadequacy of water supply.
9.7 RENOVATION & FACELIFT
Most of the building were constructed more than 30 years ago and require renovation and improvements to give the school a facelift as well as provide a more conducive atmosphere for learning. To this effect, old roofs need painting, gutters and down pipes fitted for drainage and external masonry finishes to be made good.
Roofed pavements would also enable movements during the rainy season and assist on level of cleanliness.
9.8 MAINTEMANCE OF STUDENTS FROM POOR FAMILIES
The school draws most of its students from Kieni, the relatively dry part of the District. The area is mostly hit by drought and famine leading to some students dropping out of school due to lack of fees. The situation is worsened by the HIV/ AIDs prevalence, hence need to establish an endowment fund to support such vulnerable students.
9.9 EXPANSION OF SPORTING FACILITIES.
With the rising student population, there is need to expand the fields and courts to enable more of our youth to participate in games. In order to widen the range and exposure, additional facilities such as jogging lanes, lawn tennis courts, squash courts etc are required.
9.10 STANDBY GENERATOR
The school experiences power outages frequently. To provide for this shortfall, a 20KVA generator will be necessary.
10.0 THE WAY FORWARD.
The challenges facing the institution are numerous and the management intends to address them gradually through fundraisers and appeal for assistance from friends and well wishers locally and globally.
The School management intends to re-unite the old Boys and Girls with a view to hasten the school development programme through their commitment.
At the moment the board has taken the furnishing and stocking of the library as its priority project. A book harvest event has been scheduled during this year 2007 in the school. The project is estimated to cost approximately Ksh 2.5 Million.
Self sustenance of the school on the locally available foodstuffs and developing income generating projects is also seriously being considered.
